Dr. Rahul Deshpande is the Chief Medical Director and a Consultant Ophthalmologist in Cataract at PBMA’s H.V. Desai Eye Hospital, Pune. He has a specialisation in Cataract, Oculoplasty, and Low vision. He has 25 years of experience in ophthalmology. He completed MBBS from Government Medical College, Nagpur, DOMS from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, and DNB Ophthalmology from National Board.

Dr Rahul joined PBMA’s H.V. Desai Eye Hospital in 2000 and has been serving as the Chief Medical Director since 2021.

Dr Rahul is the Chairman of Scientific Committee of the organisation, and a post graduate teacher for DNB and has many presentations and publications to his credit. He has an interest in various doctor-training programs, such as SICS Phacoemulsification training and various fellowship programs.

Dr Rahul was the secretary of Pune Ophthalmological Society (POS) and was the Zonal member of Maharashtra Ophthalmological Society (MOS). Recently, in August 2023, he has been appointed as West Zone Regional representative for Vision 2020.

Dr. Sucheta Kulkarni, Medical Director

Dr Sucheta Kulkarni is the Director of subspeciality services and fellowship programs, a senior cataract surgeon, and the Head of Department of Retina and ROP services at PBMA’s H.V. Desai Eye Hospital, Pune. She has over 25 years of experience in eye care. Dr Sucheta has also completed her Masters (Public Health for Eye Care) with a distinction from the University of London. She has a special interest in Diabetic Retinopathy and Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) and has received several awards for her work in these areas.

Amongst her several awards and honours is the one where she was invited by HM the Queen of UK at Buckingham Palace for a special reception to celebrate her contribution in successful ROP work in India which was funded by The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust. She has trained over 300 ophthalmologists from India and abroad. She has a keen interest in research with 47 papers to her credit as of August 2023.

Dr Kuldeep Dole, Medical Director

Dr. Kuldeep Dole is a senior Consultant Ophthalmologist in Cataract and IOL department and the Head of Department of Community Ophthalmology at PBMA’s H.V. Desai Eye Hospital, Pune. He is a Medical Director of the hospital mainly supervising various projects and development of the organization.

Dr Kuldeep has over 23 years of experience in Ophthalmology and Community Eye health. He has done his MBBS & MS (Ophthal) from Pune University in 1997 & 2000 respectively. Dr Kuldeep has also completed his Masters in Community Eye Health from University of London in 2002-2003, after working as a Consultant Ophthalmologist in Mwanza, Tanzania in 2002. Over the years he has mastered Phaco-Cataract surgery with all types of intraocular lenses with excellent post operative outcomes.

Dr. Kuldeep has received training in Medical Retina from Tel Aviv University, Israel for 3 months in 2005. He is the Secretary of the Ethics Committee of the organisation, and a technical advisor to Lions Clubs International Foundation’s Sight First program for Western and Northern India. Dr. Kuldeep is a post-graduate teacher for DNB and has many presentations and publications to his credit. He is dedicated to providing quality eye care services and research in the field of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Abhilasha Parkhe

Dr. Abhilasha Parkhe

Dr. Abhilasha Parkhe is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at H.V. Desai Eye Hospital, with specialisation in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus; Neuro-Ophthalmology. She has an MBBS and MS Ophthalmology degree from B.J. Gov. Medical College, Pune, and a fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology-Strabismus; Neuro-Ophthalmology from RGUHS; Narayana Nethralaya, Bangalore.

She also has a clinical fellowship in Neuro-ophthalmology from Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins, Baltimore, USA, and training in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Ocular genetics from Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia, USA and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, USA.

She has five years of experience in the field and has presented research papers in international and national conferences.

She is actively involved in teaching and research activities, as well as community ophthalmology projects in tribal areas of Melghat.

Dr. Mukesh Paryani is a renowned Cataract and Refractive surgeon based in Pune with 14 years of experience. He graduated from Mumbai with an M.B.B.S degree and then pursued a Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in Ophthalmology from H. V. Desai Eye Institute in Pune. He further specialized in Phacoemulsification and Refractive Surgery (F.P.R.S) at the prestigious Narayana Netralaya Super specialty Hospital, Bangalore. Dr Mukesh is an expert in Microincision Cataract surgery (Phacoemulsification) and LASIK laser surgeries, as well as handling complex cataract cases and implanting phakic IOLs.

He is also a skilled refractive surgeon in Pune who has performed numerous LASIK surgeries, Bladeless LASIK i.e., Femtosecond laser surgeries, Phakic Implants, and visual rehabilitation of patients with keratoconus. Dr Anita Bodakhe Gaikwad is a specialist in Phacoemulsification, Medical Retina and ROP with 10 years of experience. She completed her M.B.B.S from Pravara Medical College Loni and her D.O.M.S. from Yashwantrao Memorial Hospital, Pimpri. P.C.M.C.

She also did a long term fellowship in Phacoemulsification, Medical Retina from PBMA, H.V.Desai hospital Pune.

She joined H.V.Desai hospital in 2020 and has been involved in various doctor training programs for SICS and Phacoemulsification, ROP screening and treatment. She is also a sub investigator in clinical trials.

Dr Ashwini Gaikwad is an experienced Cataract, Glaucoma and Medical Retina Specialist with 13 years of practice in this field. She obtained her MBBS degree from L.T.M.M. College and Hospital Sion, Mumbai, and then pursued her Diploma in Ophthalmology from PBMA’s H.V.Desai eye Hospital Pune.

She further completed her General Ophthalmology Fellowship and Medical Retina Fellowship from the same hospital, and then did her long-term Glaucoma Fellowship from National institute of Ophthalmology, Pune.

She specializes in Phacoemulsification cataract surgery, Glaucoma Surgery, Glaucoma and Retina Lasers. She is also the In charge of Cataract and Glaucoma wet lab in H.V.Desai eye hospital, where she trains young ophthalmologists in clinical and surgical skills of cataract and glaucoma.

She has participated in various clinical trials and research projects, and has presented her work in regional and national conferences.

Dr Atul Hegade is an expert ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract and medical retina treatments. He graduated from Pune University with an MBBS degree in 2000 and obtained a DOMS diploma from CPS Mumbai in 2003.

He has been working at H V Desai eye hospital since 2004. Dr Atul underwent medical retina training at Shankar Netralaya, Chennai in 2011.

He is proficient in performing Phaco cataract surgeries with various types of advanced intraocular lenses. He has also participated in several clinical trials as a principal investigator at H V Desai hospital.

He serves as the secretary of the Biomedical research ethics committee at the same hospital. He is passionate about teaching and mentoring other doctors and leads the SICS training program at H V Desai hospital. He has presented his work at many national conferences.

Dr. Kalyani V.K.S is a Senior Glaucoma and Cataract consultant at PBMA’s H.V.Desai Eye Hospital, Pune, where she has been working for 23 years. She has 28 years of experience in ophthalmology and holds an M.B.B.S & MS. Ophthalmology degree from Government Rangraya Medical College, Kaknada.

She is also the In-charge of Phaco Training, a guide to DNB post graduate students and the Principal of College of Optometry.

She has published papers in National & International Journals and presented papers at various prestigious conferences such as American academy of Ophthalmology, World Glaucoma, World Ophthalmic, All India Ophthalmological and Maharashtra state conferences. She is also a guest faculty in CME’s and conferences.

Dr. Khurshed Bharucha is a Professor and Consultant Ophthalmologist at PBMA’s H.V. Desai Eye Hospital. He specializes in cataract and anterior segment microsurgery, with 28 years of experience in the field.

He obtained his MBBS and MS degrees from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, and served as a Consultant Ophthalmologist in the Indian Air Force for 24 years.

He joined PBMA’s H.V. Desai Eye Hospital in 2012, where he is involved in various doctor-training programs, such as post-graduate teaching and surgical training for DNB, Diploma students and fellows.

He is also a recognized post graduate teacher for DNB & MS and has contributed to several presentations and publications.

Dr Kunal obtained his M.B.B.S. degree from Government Medical College Aurangabad, followed by D.O.M.S. and D.N.B. degrees from the renowned Sri Sankardeva Nethralaya, Guwahati. He then pursued a Fellowship in Advance Intra Ocular Lenses at Vivekananda Nethralaya, Dehradun.

Dr Kunal is a young and dynamic eye surgeon who embraces technology in his practice. He is an outstanding clinician, a skilled surgeon, a generous teacher, and a dedicated professional. He specializes in complex cataract surgeries and refractive procedures, and he is also interested in artificial intelligence and teleophthalmology in ophthalmology. He has more than 7 years of experience in the field of eye care, where he has served in various parts of India, including Bihar, Assam, West Bengal, and Uttarakhand. He is fluent in Marathi, Hindi, English, Assamese, and Gadwali. He is more than just an ophthalmic surgeon; he is a guitarist, photographer and traveller.

Dr Megha Patil is a Cataract surgeon with more than 12 years of experience in the field of Ophthalmology. She obtained her MBBS degree from MGM Medical College Mumbai and her DOMS degree from Bombay Hospital Mumbai.

She also completed a glaucoma fellowship from H V Desai Eye Hospital and a Phaco training from Vinobabhave Hospital Dadra Nagar Haveli.

She joined H V Desai Eye Hospital as a consultant in 2020 and has been involved in various doctor-training programs, such as SICS / Phacoemulsification.

Dr Neha Shrirao is Consultant in the department of Oculoplastics and Orbit. She is trained from the prestigious Sankara Netralaya, Chennai after which she has worked as a consultant in Sankara Netralaya, Kolkata and Aravind eye hospital, Coimbatore. She is practising since the past 10 years. She deals with diseases, deformities and cancers of the eyelids, lacrimal system and orbit.

Dr Neha has various publications in national and international peer reviewed journals. She is an invited faculty in national Ophthalmology conferences to share her insight and experiences. She is exceptionally passionate about teaching and mentors trained ophthalmologists pursuing a fellowship in the field of Oculoplastics. Dr Niraj Nalawade is an anaesthesiologist with 10 years of experience in the field. Dr. Sagar Aghadate is currently serving as a vitreoretinal consultant at H.V. Desai Hospital in Pune. He earned his M.B.B.S. degree from I.G.G.M.C. College, Nagpur, and completed his MS in Ophthalmology at Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals, Mumbai.

Dr. Aghadate gained valuable experience as a Speciality Medical Officer at KEM Hospital and pursued a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Sir J.J. Dr Sanket Kulkarni is a junior consultant associated with H.V. Desai Eye Hospital. He completed his M.B.B.S from Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Karad and D.N.B Ophthalmology from National Board of Education, New Delhi. He finished his fellowship in the subspecialties of cataract and refractive surgeries from H.V Desai eye hospital, Pune and joined the Institute as a junior consultant in the department of cataract and refractive surgery.

He is currently also the course coordinator for NCVRT course in the Institute. He is well versed with all basic and modern technologies and has an experience of almost 10 years in the field. He has performed more than 3000 cataract surgeries including normal as well as complicated cases. In addition he is adept with refractive surgeries like LASIK, PRK , IPCL etc. He is also actively involved in academics and has trained numerous residents and fellows in the nuances of cataract surgery.

Dr. Shilpa Joshi is a Consultant Ophthalmologist in Cataract and the Head of the Cornea Department at PBMA’s H.V. Desai Eye Hospital. She is also the Medical Director of the Eye Bank. She has an MBBS degree from Nagpur University, a DOMS degree from Bombay University, and a FICO (UK) degree. She also holds a Master's in Public Health. She has been working as an ophthalmologist for 21 years. She completed her cornea fellowship from LVPEI, Hyderabad in 2004 and joined HVD in 2002. She is an active researcher and teacher, with several national presentations and clinical trials under her belt. She is also involved in various doctor-training programs, such as SICS phacoemulsification training, Cornea, and DNB students and fellows teaching.

Dr Shilpa Sonarkhan is a consultant paediatric ophthalmologist, strabismus and neuro-Ophthalmologist with 13 years of experience. She graduated from Indira Gandhi Govt Medical college Nagpur in 2005 and obtained her post graduation from Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Bhopal in 2010. She then completed her fellowship in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus from L V Prasad eye Institute, Hyderabad in 2013.

She also holds an International Council Of Ophthalmology (ICO) certification and a child psychology degree. She is passionate about understanding and solving the problems of kids, especially digital addiction. She has initiated a digital detox programme for kids to help them overcome this issue. She has published several papers and presented at various state and national conferences. She is also involved in research projects and post graduate teaching programmes, with a special interest in simulated strabismus surgery.

Dr. Snehal Ghadge Acharekar is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specializing in Cornea, Cataract, and Ocular Surface Diseases. She has worked as a Cornea Surgeon at PBMA’s H.V. Desai Eye Hospital, Pune (2014-2017), and as a Senior Consultant at Rajan Eye Care Hospital, Chennai (2017-2022). She is currently a Cornea Consultant at PBMA’s H.V. Desai Eye Hospital, Pune since September 2022.

She is skilled in performing keratoplasty, ocular trauma surgeries, premium cataract surgeries, keratoconus management and dry eyes management. She is also an experienced trainer who has taught many surgeons in SICS, phaco and cornea surgeries.

Dr. Varsha has performed over 10000 cataract surgeries, including complicated cases and premium IOL, with excellent results. Her specialty is low vision assessment and prescription of low vision aids. She is the secretary of the Quality department at H.V. Desai hospital and actively involved in administration, training and research activities.
