Speciality Department

We at H. V. Desai Eye Hospital do offer various subspeciality services in eye care. There are different parts of the eye with very different diseases requiring complex treatment and surgeries. We have following subspeciality departments.

This is a transparent layer in the front of the eye and is prone to damage with injury, accident or infection. Corneal transplant is nothing but ‘eye donation’ procedure where a damaged cornea id replaced with a donated cornea from a dead person. This department is equipped with ultramodern equipment such as digital slit lamp, corneal topography, specular microscope, dry eye laser, OCT etc.

This disease is called the silent thief of vision and can lead to irreversible loss of vision if not detected on time. The optic nerves (nerves connecting eye and brain) may get damaged if glaucoma is left untreated. This department is equipped with ultramodern equipment such as digital slit lamp, Humphrey visual field analyser, pachymeter, YAG laser, Laser trabeculoplasty, OCT etc.

This is the back of the eye (inner layer) which gets affected adversely in systemic diseases such as in diabetes or hypertension. Retinal diseases can cause permanent blindness if not treated on time. Fortunately the blindness can be prevented in vast majority of patients with timely treatment.

A disease called retinopathy of prematurity (ROP, a disease seen in premature babies) is becoming common in India. Screening for ROP needs to be done within first month of the birth. If a severe disease is found in a baby, it needs to be treated urgently with laser or some injections. This department is equipped with ultramodern equipment such as digital slit lamp, video indirect ophthalmoscope, digital camera (pediatric and adult), Optos ultrawide fields camera, yellow and green lasers, ERG machine, OCT, Ultrasound B scan, angiography machine etc.

Childhood eye conditions need a different approach of management compared to adult eye diseases. This department treats all types of childhood eye conditions such as cataract, squint (crossed eyes), myopia. Additionally all the complex diseases which affect brain and eyes are also managed in this department. This department is equipped with digital analyser for myopia management, amblyopia management software, Hess chart for diplopia charting etc

The diseases of the eyelids and surrounding part of the eye are managed in this department. Certain procedure to improve the cosmetic appearance of the eye are also carried out in this department. Similarly rare eye cancers are diagnosed and treated here. We offer one of the largest ocular oncology services in the state. This department is equipped with modern electrocautery, digital wide field camera for imaging, Red laser for cancer management etc.

This department offers surgeries which can provide freedom from spectacles. High spectacle number reduces the quality of vision and may have an impact on the mental health of a person. Refractive surgeries can greatly boost confidence of a person by making them spectacle free. This department is equipped with ultramodern Zeiss machine for refractive surgery.
