Ophthalmology is a specialized branch of medicine and surgery dedicated to the study and treatment of all diseases related to the eyes, offers a rewarding career path for aspiring medical professionals. Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates should have obtained an MBBS Degree from an institution recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI). Candidate should have completed a 1- year compulsory rotating internship after passing the final professional examination. Candidate must have registered with Medical Council of India or its state branches.

Course Duration: 3 Years

Award of the Diploma:
The diploma, DNB in Ophthalmology, is confirmed upon satisfactory course completion, thesis acceptance, and passing the final theory and practical exam administered by the NBE.

Course outline:
The postgraduate students participate in an orientation programme during the first month of their studies, during which they learn about the various departments and how the hospital operates. After that, they work with senior consultants in our various outpatient departments. They receive training in indirect ophthalmoscopic fundus examination, slit lamp examination, visual evaluation, refraction, and 90 D.

They experience a range of clinical investigation procedures throughout their first year, including fundus photography, keratometry, A-Scan, Topography, Fluorescein angiography, Optical Coherence Tomography, Anterior Segment Photography, ORA, Gonioscopy, and Tonometry. In the first year, they also begin observation training in small incision cataract surgery. In the second year, they are rotated through various specialty departments including, Cornea, Retina, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Oculoplasty, Glaucoma and Refractive surgery. The cataract and specialty screening camps are attended by DNB students. During their last year, they get to experience retinal lasers, intravitreal injections, pterygium surgery, and hands-on phacoemulsification. The teaching curriculum includes 4 theory lessons each week, including journal clubs, seminars, case presentations, grand rounds.

Diploma in Ophthalmic Medicine & Surgery (D.O.M.S.)
The Diploma in Ophthalmic Medicine and Surgery (DOMS) is a specialized program that provides aspiring medical professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to diagnose and manage eye disorders. Recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI), the DOMS course offers a comprehensive curriculum that focuses on ophthalmic medicine, surgery, and practical training. Candidates from out side India, should have valid medical registration with National Medical Commission (NMC).

Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates must possess a recognized medical qualification (MBBS) from a medical college recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI). Candidates must have completed a one-year rotating internship after MBBS.

Course Duration: The DOMS course typically spans a duration of two years.

Selection Criteria:
All the applicants must have eligible NEET PG exam score. The entrance examination assesses the candidate's knowledge and aptitude in the field of ophthalmology. In order to become eligible for counselling, candidate must have obtained minimum 50 percentile for General category (40 percentile for SC/ST/OBC (including PWD of SC/ST/OBC) and 45 percentiles for UR PWD) in NEET PG.

Award of the Diploma:
The PG diploma, DOMS is confirmed upon satisfactory course completion, thesis acceptance, and passing the final theory and practical exams.

The curriculum of the DOMS course is designed to provide a strong foundation in ophthalmology, covering both theoretical and practical aspects.
The course includes subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Ophthalmic Optics, Ophthalmic Pathology, Ophthalmic Surgery, and Ophthalmic Medicine. Practical training is an integral part of the curriculum, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in clinical settings, outpatient departments (OPDs), and operation theatres. The DOMS course provides extensive clinical training, allowing students to develop practical skills in the diagnosis and management of eye disorders. Medical students are exposed to a wide range of clinical cases, surgical procedures, and outpatient department (OPD) management.
